Ex-Wife number 1

My first ex-wife and I were married very young. We met while still in high school. While riding our skateboards in the new Stator Bros. parking lot I saw this girl. She turned out to be the friend of my my best friends girlfriend (if that makes sense). To make a long story short, we dated for a little while, she got pregnant, and we got married.

My son was born July 20 1997. She actually had a good pregnancy with the exception of being diabetic. When the time came, we went in to get her induced. Things happened and my son was born with cerebral palsy. It was a very trying time. He was in the hospital for one full month after he was born.

My ex wife just lost it when we actually brought him home. She went into a major depression. The day after we brought my son home she flipped out and left for Colorado where her mother lived the next day leaving me to take care of a newborn baby.

She was gone for about a week and came home. Things seemed to be going pretty well. We were together for the next two years as a happy family. Then, her depression showed up again. She started partying and cheating on. Finally, one day I came home and she told me she wanted a divorce.

I left and went to live with my parents while she kept custody of our son (at least for the time being). She made our divorce very painful and hurtful. She said a lot of things about me. She put in court papers that I used to beat the crap out of her and even made up detailed instances. She went out and got a restraining order against me. So, to prove myself I bought a telephone conversation recorder. I got her on tape saying all that stuff wasn’t true.

Then came the day she called me and said she needed to talk to me. Against my better judgement I went to her apartment to see what she had to say. She told me she could no longer take care of our son and that I needed to take custody of him. I was absolutely ecstatic. I wanted my son and didn’t think twice about it. So the next day I came and took him.

The next weekend, my friend and I went back to her apartment to get all of my sons stuff. That was the last time he had seen his mother, he was just about three years old and is now eleven going on twelve next month.

The next couple of years I spent getting divorced from my ex-wife. She filed for the divorce and I had to finish it because she would not sign any papers. No child support came, no phone calls, not even a birthday card for my son. Eventually, she signed over all of her rights to him and I have 100% full legal and physical custody of him.

Her family was a pretty close nit type of family. Since she and I split up, I haven’t even heard from them. It was as if they dropped off the face of the earth as well. Luckily my family is kick ass and they are all we needed.

Not too long ago I heard from one of her family members (a kid that worked at Albertsons), that she had died of cancer. My mom called her grandmother to express her condolences and found out it was not my ex-wife that died, but her mother. That’s what happens when you live in a small town.

Through this, my ex-wife and I now talk via computer web cam. She now lives out of state, is remarried, and has a new baby boy. She is supposed to come out in July to see my son.
