Marinate a Steak

I am way big into Barbeque. I can’t explain it. But, I only BBQ steak (or red meat).  I have barbecued chicken before, but really wasn’t into it. There is just something about red meat that gives me the hot’s!

One thing I absolutely cannot stand is a “marinated” steak that tastes like crap. Sometimes you can just tell that the steak was not marinated well. It may be that it was not marinated long enough, or that the person that marinated it simply did not do it correctly. I simply cannot stand when the taste of the meat is all on the outside, instead of actually flavoring the meat.

So I have demonstrated with pictures, how to actually “marinate” red meat. Ladies please, remember this. Your husbands will love you FOREVER!

Today, I am going to marinate four rib eye steaks. Personally to me, the “rib eye” is one of the best steaks to marinate and cook on the grill. Why? Because the marble in a rib eye steak can be great. You get most of your flavor in the actual “fat” of the meat.

The first thing you should do is poke holes in your steaks. Don’t forget to do BOTH sides of the steak. This makes it slightly tenderer and will help the marinade actually get into the meat.

You want to have a “seal able” container to put your steak into. If you do not, some sort of container with foil on the top will do just fine. You want to pour your marinade all over the meat. Once it is in the container, you want to mix the meat with the marinade so every part of the steak is covered.

Once you have poked holes in the steakand poured the marinade all over it, seal up the marinating steak. A lot of marinades will say “30 Minute Marinade”. This may be true, but it will only COVER the taste of the meat. It will not actually get into the meat and make it flavorful.

Always put the marinating steak in the refrigerator. I suggest marinating your steak for at least 24 hours. Poking the wholes in the steaks and having them sit over night will most certainly make your steaks taste wonderful.
